This contract held many challenges for our client. How would they supply the products within short time frame? How would they have available such a broad portfolio of supplies? The warehousing of large amounts of supplies for immediate delivery and the physical logistics of rapid delivery were very complex.
There were also environmental challenges of keeping fuel usage down whilst still being responsive to multiple universities, managing their supply chain to maximise use of recycled produce whilst minimising packaging and the use of plastics in the supply chain. How do you deliver supplies in an environmentally sustainable manner both in terms of travel miles and the packaging and design of the product?
The scoring of the tender was weighted heavily towards those able to offer sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches involving carbon reporting, ethical sourcing, the minimising of single use plastic and innovative environmental sources.
